Lions and Tigers and Bears Oh My!

June 30th, 2007 by Las Vegas USA Blog

No, not really but the MGM Grand Lion Habitat provides plenty of opportunity for visitors to see real live lions of all sizes and ages. The Habitat at this famous Las Vegas hotel and casino has been the home of one of the most seen lions in the world, Leo the lion who roars at the beginning of every MGM production.

Leo has retired but his family carries on in his place at the MGM Grand Lion Habitat. All of the lions featured now are descendants of Leo and entertain about 12,000 visitors a day in the habitat complete with four waterfalls, a pond, trees, and overhangs.

The 5,000 square foot habitat is enclosed with one and a half inch glass giving viewers the chance to watch the lions as they eat, sleep, and play. You may have a problem getting good photos though as there is usually a crowd with noses pressed against the glass.

While the attraction at the MGM Grand Lion Habitat in Las Vegas may seem confining for the lions don’t worry. The lions ‘work’ for 6 hours and then have several days off at the 8.5 acre ranch about 12 miles from the hotel.

Both the attraction at the Las Vegas hotel and the ranch are open to the public from 11:00am – 10:00pm daily and admission is free. Although at the ranch for a fee you can have your photo taken with lion cubs.

A great way to pass some time and gain a real appreciation for the ‘big cats’ or ‘kings of the jungle’ you won’t want to miss this Las Vegas attraction.

The Amazing Johnathan – Entertaining, Eccentric and Bizarre

June 29th, 2007 by Las Vegas USA Blog

This is how the Amazing Johnathan who is also known as the Freddy Krueger of Comedy is not a show for children. So, leave the kids at home and head out to the Sahara to take in one of Vegas’ best comedy shows.

From acerbic comedy to innovative magic, sight gags to special effects be prepared. The Amazing Johnathan includes a far share of audience participation so expect the unexpected especially if you are lucky enough to be seated close to the stage.

Johnathan doesn’t actually do ‘magic’ on stage unless you count shocking the audience. What he actually does is start out like he’s going to do a magic trick, usually one we’ve all seen a million times, but either doesn’t finish the trick or somehow twists it around with a new ending.

The Amazing Johnathan has been featured in Rolling Stone magazine and The New York Times and he has received Las Vegas Review-Journal’s “Best of Las Vegas” awards with “Best Show” and “Best Comedian”.

Although The Amazing Johnathan has spent time at the The Flamingo and The Riviera his home is now at the Sahara Hotel & Casino which has been host to just about every major star since it opened in the early 1950s.

This show does contain adult language and themes and no one under 18 will be admitted without a parent or legal guardian.

THE SECOND CITY SHOW

June 23rd, 2007 by Las Vegas USA Blog

The show that inspired “Saturday Night Live” and turned improvisation into a true art form has been enthralling Las Vegas audiences since 2001!

The Second City, which started as a tiny theater in Chicago’s Old Town neighborhood, has become the top name in live, comedic entertainment. An institution in its native city, the troupe’s alum roster reads like a who’s who of comedic greatness – Bill Murray, Mike Meyers, Eugene Levy, Catherine O’Hara, Tina Fey and Joan Rivers, to name only a few.

Thanks to its intimate seating, The Second City Theater is the perfect venue for the troupe’s insightful, intelligent humor. It’s also perfect for enabling audience participation.

In a town where white tigers and helicopters appear out of thin air, The Second City cast members have a more difficult task at hand – creating comedy out of a series of words and phrases hurled at them by overzealous audiences.

Be part of the experience! The room is intimate, the show is hilarious and you won’t find a better value on the Strip!

The Second City performs at the conveniently located Flamingo Las Vegas on the world famous Las Vegas Strip!
