Lions and Tigers and Bears Oh My!

No, not really but the MGM Grand Lion Habitat provides plenty of opportunity for visitors to see real live lions of all sizes and ages. The Habitat at this famous Las Vegas hotel and casino has been the home of one of the most seen lions in the world, Leo the lion who roars at the beginning of every MGM production.

Leo has retired but his family carries on in his place at the MGM Grand Lion Habitat. All of the lions featured now are descendants of Leo and entertain about 12,000 visitors a day in the habitat complete with four waterfalls, a pond, trees, and overhangs.

The 5,000 square foot habitat is enclosed with one and a half inch glass giving viewers the chance to watch the lions as they eat, sleep, and play. You may have a problem getting good photos though as there is usually a crowd with noses pressed against the glass.

While the attraction at the MGM Grand Lion Habitat in Las Vegas may seem confining for the lions don’t worry. The lions ‘work’ for 6 hours and then have several days off at the 8.5 acre ranch about 12 miles from the hotel.

Both the attraction at the Las Vegas hotel and the ranch are open to the public from 11:00am – 10:00pm daily and admission is free. Although at the ranch for a fee you can have your photo taken with lion cubs.

A great way to pass some time and gain a real appreciation for the ‘big cats’ or ‘kings of the jungle’ you won’t want to miss this Las Vegas attraction.
