Las Vegas Fight: Mayweather vs. Hatton

August 4th, 2007 by administrator

Fighting and Las Vegas go hand in hand almost as much as Las Vegas and gambling or Las Vegas and prostitution. You know, they don’t call it Sin City for nothing.

There is one fight taking place in Las Vegas this year that you don’t want to miss. It won’t happen until December, but it will be a fight worth watching. The fight is for the boxing welterweight title currently held by Floyd Mayweather Jr. Mayweather is being challenged by Ricky Hatton (43-0, 31 KOs). Damn, how can Mayweather stand against a guy with so many knock outs?

Mayweather himself, though, is no weenie. With 38 wins, no losses, and 24 knock outs, he will be tough to beat. But the trash talk has already started and both men are making promises that only one of them will be able to keep. The question is, which one?

Hatton, an Englishman, is coming back to Las Vegas after beating the sweat out of Jose Luis Castillo in Las Vegas in June. Mayweather, from Michigan, beat Oscar De La Hoya on May 5 in one of the most exciting fights in welterweight boxing history.

Mayweather was planning to retire, but Hatton’s challenge got him back in the ring so the fight in December could outdo Mayweather’s slugfest against De La Hoya in terms of excitement and money on the ropes. It promises to enliven Las Vegas and light up the Christmas lights, if not put a jack ass in America’s nativity scene. We’ll see which one of these boxers will play the part of the jack ass. I’m betting it’s Hatton, but I’ve been known to double down and cover my bets so don’t be surprised if Mayweather gets a vote as well. Anyone know the spread?
