The 808 serves Hawaiian and Euro-Pacific cuisine. You probably should make a reservation as the restaurant is popular on most nights. You don’t have to dress up too fancy, but casual to smartly dressed is about right.
The restaurant is not open every evening. It remains closed midweek on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, and is open every other evening, 5.30pm to 10.30pm, Sunday, Monday and Thursday, and 5.30pm to 11pm on Friday and Saturday evenings.
The decor at the 808 is naturally Hawaiian. There is a watery feel to the ceiling, but it is largely an illusional effect. The colors that are used throughout are muted and blend well together to provide a relaxing effect.
Hawaiian fusion is one way to describe the food. It’s predominantly Hawaiian with a mixture of French, Japanese, Italian, Indian and Thailand. It’s difficult to describe any other way, except to say that it is simply heavenly.
The lobster has been described as “out of this world,” but it is definitely in this world and just waiting for you to sample it. I should warn you that the lobster is not cheap, but you will probably never taste lobster quite like it again.
The 808 can and does get busy. Service can be slow after 7pm or so. If you are in a hurry, then you probably shouldn’t be there. Slow down, relax, get a large drink and just bide your time. You’ll get served before long and it will be worth the wait. believe me, it will be!
