Las Vegas: Ride Through Jesse James´ Stomping Grounds

December 30th, 2007 by Las Vegas USA Blog

With the new Brad Pitt movie about Jesse James coming out, a lot of people are interested in seeing where this notorious criminal hung out. Just outside of Las Vegas, you can ride the same trails that he took, see the desert as he saw it . . . not much has changed in the years since Jesse James rode here.

Las Vegas Jesse James Ride

The Jesse James Horse Ride takes you on horseback through the Nevada desert, past deserted mines that once hummed with life and through the dry riverbed that probably served to quench the horseman´s thirst at some point in history. Now, the desert has claimed it.

You´ll enjoy a true cowboy breakfast before mounting up and riding out early and heading through a patch of fertile land where horses and cattle graze. Back in the day, this would have been a prime target for horse rustlers, but these days, the ranch serves as a hospice for old and abused animals.

The Jesse James Horse Ride is a wonderful way to see the land around Las Vegas and experience life the way it used to be.

Las Vegas Attractions: Freemont Street

November 27th, 2007 by Las Vegas USA Blog

There´s no visiting Las Vegas without seeing Freemont Street, one of the biggest Las Vegas attractions. Five blocks that appear by day to be an ordinary pedestrian street with a canopy overhead . . . but by night, the canopy transforms into an amazing light show that is not to be missed.

Originally started in June of 2004, this spectacular Las Vegas attraction has drawn crowds ever since. The arched canopy is made up of over 12.5 million LED lights that are computer controlled to portray vivid pictures and animations. And though the original Las Vegas attraction was impressive, the Freemont Street Light and Sound show was recently upgraded to Viva Vision, which gives crisper pictures and a more dazzling experience.

Las Vegas Attraction, Freemont Street

There is nothing like walking down Freemont Street at night, enjoying the music and three brand-new productions designed specifically for the show. The high rez pictures can be seen from just about every angle on the street and speakers blast the music and voices to go with the images you´ll be seeing. It really is an amazing experience.

Stay close to the action by booking a room at the Golden Nugget Hotel where you can book a room in the 22 story building that overlooks the Las Vegas light attraction. Just walk out the front door to enjoy the show!

Doing Las Vegas with Kids

November 12th, 2007 by Las Vegas USA Blog

Most people think of Las Vegas as an adult-only place, but the truth is that it can be quite kid-friendly, if you know where to look. While minors aren´t allowed on the casino floor, there are still plenty of Las Vegas attractions for your children to check out.

The Las Vegas Blue Man show is an amazing theatrical presentation that combines music, comedy and theater into one spectacular show. All the actors are, of course, painted blue. This is a totally kid-friendly show.

Circus Circus offers amazing circus shows and a pint-sized “casino” where kids can spend their extra cash on penny pushers and stuffed animal claw machines. It´s definitely a place to check out if you are taking children to Las Vegas.

The Las Vegas Comedy Pet Theater is another show that is perfectly safe for innocent eyes. Your kids will love watching adorable cats and dogs, and even the occasional mouse, perform tricks on the stage.

Another great Las Vegas attraction for kids is the Coca Cola museum. Here, kids will learn about the history of Coke, see an actual bottling plant and be able to sample beverages made by the Coca Cola company around the world (ever tried African grapefruit soda?).

There are plenty of fun Las Vegas attractions to see with your children, so there should be no hesitation about bringing the little ones on your Las Vegas vacation.

Waxing Lyrically About Madame Tussauds In Las Vegas

November 2nd, 2007 by Las Vegas USA Blog

The original Madame Tussauds is in London, England. In it there are famous figures past and present that have always attracted millions of curious eyes, all wondering what it is like standing next to someone so well known.

Madame Tussauds in Las Vegas is pretty much the same. It probably targets more Americans than Europeans, but that’s to be expected. They have over 100 highly realistic wax replicas of celebrities from movies, sports, music and television.

Captain Jack Sparrow at Madame Tussauds Las Vegas

The Spirit Of America themed area lets you stand shoulder to shoulder with the likes of George Washington, John F Kennedy, Abraham Lincoln and others. Another popular themed exhibit is The King In Concert where The King is of course, Elvis. This is one of the interactive exhibits, and Elvis truly seems to be alive and well at Madame Tussauds in Las Vegas.

The museum is constantly adding to its already huge collection of wax figures. They perform regular surveys to disover what their visitors would like to see. The answers may find themselves as a new wax figure, if the response is there. Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow from the movie “Pirates of the Caribbean” for example is the result of popular demand.

The Marry Clooney experience is one of the most popular exhibits, at least among the women. Interested visitors can dress up in a wedding dress and stand beside one of America’s most eligible bachelors. They can even have celebrities as the “witnesses.” Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie is a possibility, or Elvis and Marilyn Monroe even!

October 30th, 2007 by Las Vegas USA Blog

Scream factor is a phrase describing how good a ride is. The Thrill Ride Adventure Tour claims to have five scream factors, and that’s very good news for thrill ride enthusiasts! This attraction incorporates no less than five of the greatest experiences you can have with all your clothes on.

“Enjoy some of the most intense and fun thrill rides in Las Vegas as you take on 5 of the best rides - The Big Shot, X Scream and Insanity at the Stratosphere, Speed the Ride at the Sahara and then Manhattan Express at New York New York. Five hours of heart-pumping fun!” deals.travelape.com
Vegas Thrill Ride Adventure Tour
There’s not a lot to say after that! Except that this is ride paradise. Everything you ever hoped good rides would be will come true when you take the Thrill Ride Adventure Tour in Las Vegas. For a start, you commence at the very top of the Stratosphere, one of the highest points for miles around. Here you will start off with The Big Shot, experiencing no less than four G’s of force, traveling at 45 miles an hour. Nut there’s more to come…

X Scream is the third highest ride in the world. And of course, they don’t have the word, “scream” it its name for nothing! If you want a really good view of the Strip and Las Vegas in general, then Insanity is for you. This amazing ride will push you some 64 feet out over the edge of the Stratosphere tower. It will spin you at three G’s of force though, so maybe your view of the city will be a bit distorted. But you didn’t go on the ride for the view…
Las Vegas Thrill Ride Adventure Tour
Speed comes next. This ride is at the Sahara Hotel. This ride is as good as it gets. You will go forwards and backwards at 70, yes 70, miles an hour. Last but not least comes the Manhattan Express. It’s two minutes of twisting and turning. Then there’s a 50 degree drop, almost straight down. Just as well lunch comes next, and not before!

Las Vegas Self Drive Tour to Grand Canyon West Rim

October 29th, 2007 by Las Vegas USA Blog

The Grand Canyon. The only spectacle on earth that is greater than its combined hype. This is a self drive tour to Grand Canyon West Rim, so you take it at your own pace. The day starts when they pick you up by complementary shuttle and take you to the rental desk where you will receive your rental car for the day.

An interactive map, road games and a full gas tank is what you get, along with the car, of course. The idea is to follow the map and discover important sites of interest along the way.

“Once past Boulder City and Lake Mead, you will see the incredible Hoover Dam! Past The Hoover Dam will be tiny towns and communities. Watch out for longhorn sheep, wild horses, cows, and if you look close, you may see a snake crossing the road at the Joshua Tree Forest.” www.viator.com

After the incredible Joshua Tree Forest you will make a turn off in the direction of the Grand Canyon. You will now be on Hualapai Land and another phase of the journet starts. You will pass through several points of interest: Indian Village, Eagle Point, Guano Point, and Hualapai Ranch.
Grand Canyon West Rim Tour
From here you can enjoy a half hour horse drawn wagon ride which takes you to Hualapai Ranch at the rim of the canyon. Here you can take the optional activity of going out on to the Grand Canyon Skywalk. This is a glass bridge suspended out over the canyon. You can stand 4,000 feet above the canyon floor and feel like you are standing on air. Amazing!

Las Vegas, Death Valley Day Tour

October 29th, 2007 by Las Vegas USA Blog

The Death Valley Day Tour is a seasonal tour and, because of the extreme heat generated in the area in summer, it only operates in the winter months between October and May. The tour last around 11 hours, which includes transport to and from Las Vegas.

A complementary continental breakfast is served to you at Beatty in Nevada. This is your first stop out of Las Vegas in the incredibly beautiful Mojave Desert. Scotty’s Castle is the next stop where you will be taken back a century or so in history information.

The castle tour takes a full hour, then you will have a half hour to explore the area for yourself. You can also eat the complementary lunch provided during this time.

Your next stop is at the Ubehebe Crater. There once was a volcano here, but an eruption at one time was so violent that it disappeared and just left a big hole in the ground. The hole, or crater, is half a mile across and 800 feet deep.
Death Valley Day Tour
Furnace Creek Ranch museum is the stop next on the list and here they will tell you the history of Death Valley. Moving on you come to Badwater. This is lowest point in the western hemisphere. It stands, or lies, 282 feet below sea level.

You end the tour at Rhyolite Ghost Town. Her they will present you with your Death Valley Explorer Certificate!

The Vegas Mob Tour, Las Vegas

October 26th, 2007 by Las Vegas USA Blog

The Vegas Mob Tour refers of course to the Mob, as in organized crime. This is a tour that exposes the more sordid side of Sin City. The tour will take you through the city to places where murders have taken place. Where people have disappeared under strange circumstances and where tough-looking individuals wearing pin-striped suits and fedora hats weaved their way in and out of society.

“People are fascinated by anything about Las Vegas. They want to hear about the celebrities, the casinos, the mob and all that’s synonymous with this town.”

That’s what Robert Allen, CEO and founder of The Vegas Mob Tour has to say, and he’s right too. This is a city where glitter and glitz go hand in hand with the unpalatable side of doing business. Celebrities like Frank Sinatra and Elvis may have had their names in lights, but there’s a much darker side to the Las Vegas history.
The Las Vegas Mob Tour

“Strange tales of Sin City’s colorful past fill the air.
You will hear about the notorious gangster/casino builder Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegel and infamous mob enforcers Tony “The Ant” Spilotro and Frank Cullotta. Guests learn the truth about casino boss Frank “Lefty”Rosenthal, as well as celebrity deaths, suicides and many other strange and puzzling Nevada mysteries.” www.vegasmobtour.com

This is a tour for those who enjoy a little bit of spine chilling, but don’t want to be permanantly scarred. If you think you could enjoy visiting crime scenes where gangsters were shot in cold blood, then this attraction is for you!

Las Vegas Tours, The Amargosa Buggy Tour

October 22nd, 2007 by Las Vegas USA Blog

Too many visitors to Las Vegas stay in Las Vegas for the duration of their visit. Sure, there’s lots to see in the city, but don’t think that there’s nothing else to see. There’s a whole world of tours outside of the city just waiting to be explored and enjoyed. So be adventurous and get on a tour away from casino, hotels and bright flashing lights. There’s fun to be had, so go out and find it!

One of the best and the simplest tours is the Amargosa Buggy Tour. You’ll be picked up from your downtown hotel in Las Vegas and be taken out of the city traveling for a cuple of hours out to where the sand dunes stand up to 500 feet high. This is where you will take to a buggy and try out your skills. You’ll have a full four hours to get up to speed, so plenty of time to practice.

The buggies are pretty much like your regular car, with brakes, gears, accelerator and steering. You need a full complement of four person per buggy. If this cannot be fulfilled, then you willl not undertake the tour and your money will be refunded.
Amargosa Buggy Tour Las Vegas

“The safest off-road vehicles are used on the dunes and they come equipped with roll cages, seatbelts, and helmets for your safety. You as the renter take the responsibility to operate the vehicle responsibly. Rolling the buggie is the result of irresponsible operation.” www.just-tours.co.uk

This is a fun tour. It’s a toys for boys kind of day that you won’t forget - even if you’re a girl!

Las Vegas Hummer Ancient Valley Tour

October 13th, 2007 by Las Vegas USA Blog

The Las Vegas Hummer Ancient Valley Tour will take you an hour’s travel north of the city of Las Vegas to a place that is Area 34. Yes, it sounds a bit like Area 51, but that’s a quite different place altogether. You will be there for a day of adventure and photo opportunity. You’ll love it!

The scenery at Area 34 has been 500 million years in the making. That’s why it is so spectacular and beautiful. Here you will find forests of petrified wood among rock formations that are truly unique. You will hear stories that may suggest extraterrestial occurrances in the area, but then again, maybe not. Who knows!

Lunch is at the Moapa American Indian Travel Plaza and you will love it. After all that Hummer activity and movement, you’ll be glad of the chance to rest for a while. It gets hot here, of course. So be prepared. This is a part of the world not far from Las Vegas geographically. But it is a million light years away from all the glamour and glitz. This is nature at it’s rawest edge. This is real.

Las Vegas Attractions, Shark Reef at the Mandalay Bay

October 11th, 2007 by Las Vegas USA Blog

Bet you didn’t think you could see sharks in Las Vegas. You can, at the Mandalay Bay. The Shark Reef at the Mandalay Bay attraction is one of the most popular in the city, and quite rightly too. It’s a great family attraction, if a little bit expensive. But then, the best things in life are always worth it.

At Shark Reef they have a 1.0 million gallon tank. That’s one heck of a lot of water! It’s sea water too, so it’s virtually a small inland sea! They have shark tunnels and touch tanks. There’s the wierd-looking hammerhead sharks.

It’s not only sharks either. There are some 2,500 different species. This includes 12 different species of shark, so not too many are missed out. There are exotic fish, as well as turtles and reptiles, including the sharks there are 100 different species in total.

The shark tunnels is where you really get the feeling that you are right there in the sea with them. And the large aquarium really puts the size of the sharks into perspective, showing you just how large these creatures are.

Many people seem to think that Shark Reef at the Mandalay Bay is just for kids. They are wrong! Go there regardless of whether or not you have kids. You’ll be so glad you did.

Las Vegas Attractions - Bodies…The Exhibition

October 7th, 2007 by Las Vegas USA Blog

Tropicana Hotel and Casino
Ever wondered what the human body looks like inside? I mean, really inside? Wonder no more, because one of the most unusual Las Vegas attractions is Bodies…The Exhibition and you can see no less than 21 whole body specimens on display in the Tropicana Hotel and Casino.

The bodies are on display in various poses to illustrate different types of motion. There’s a darts thrower, a discus thrower, a music conductor, a baseball pitcher and more. In all, there are more than 260 human organs and partial-body specimens included in the display.

You may, quite rightly, be wondering how the bodies are preserved. After all, Las Vegas can be a very hot place. They apparently use a process called polymer preservation. This is a process that replaces all tissue and water with silicone rubber. It lets visitors see the incredible complexity of the human body with a total realism that is truly unsurpassed.

Do you smoke? Hmmm… Perhaps you won’t ever again after you see the display on the respiratory system. Apart from learning that a pack of 20 can reduce your life span by some two hours 20 minutes on average, you will be able to compare a healthy set of lungs and heart with the lungs and heart of a smoker. Still feel like lighting up? You won’t if you see it for real!

Bodies…The Exhibition at the Tropicana Hotel and Casino is certainly an eye opener. It will leave a long lasting impression. It does that for everyone. But it is also a very good way of conveying simple, but complex, information about how we life and function. Don’t miss it!

Las Vegas Attractions, Masquerade Village Show in the Sky

October 4th, 2007 by Las Vegas USA Blog

The Rio puts on carnivale every day. This hotel and casino has one of the most lavish and spectacular shows and attractions in Las Vegas - Masquerade Show in the Sky. This is a risque, sexy show. Masquerade Village is modeled after an Italian village. It has shops, bars, restaurants and of course, a wine cellar.

The show, and the fun, starts when Rio Rita leads the parade. There are acrobats, jugglers, mimes, and more. And it’s not just the performers who takes part. Patrons get in on the act too! It costs less than $10 and you get a costume and get to ride on one of the floats too.

You meet up at the main stage of the Masquerade Village, then it’s back stage where you will be given beads and hats. You’ll also get a souvenir medallion. Then it’s time to board the floats and take part in the biggest parade in town!

The show lasts around 30 minutes. The dancers perform several numbers including, “Contemporary Street Show,” “Swing and Disco,” “Beach Party” and “Venice Internationale.” This is a show and attraction with strong emphasis on fun. No one is allowed to sulk while the Masquerade Show in the Sky is in town. But who would want to. Don’t miss the Masquerade Village Show in the Sky - you’ll love it!

Las Vegas Attractions, Madame Tussauds Interactive Wax Attraction

September 29th, 2007 by Las Vegas USA Blog

Madame Tussauds Las Vegas
Madame Tussauds is usually more associated with London, England, but this one is in Las Vegas, and every bit as good as its British counterpart. The attraction is open daily from 10am to 11pm. It can be found inside the Venetian Hotel and Casino, which can be found at the intersection of the Strip and Spring Mountain Road.

There are more than 100 delicately designed replicas of the famous and fabulous in the world of film TV, sports and music. Lifelike is a word you will get used to as every model is just that. Another sighting of Elvis? You’ll think so when you see his wax model. It’s that good!

Spirit of America is one of the themed exhibits that is likely to interest everyone. It honors Americans who have made a real difference to the country’s past. Here you will find staunch patriots such as George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, John F Kennedy and others. Las Vegas entertainers from yesteryear are also featured, such as the inimitable Liberace, Frank Sinatra, Siegfried & Roy, and Wayne Newton.

Did I mention Elvis earlier? I did, and The King In Concert exhibition really does appear to bring him back again. Fans can be photographed shaking hands with him, and believe me, it really does look genuine, No wonder they claim sightings of Elvis when it gets this real.

The Madame Tussauds display is interactive in many areas. Perhaps the best one, for the ladies at least, is the Marry Clooney exhibition. Here they can don a wedding dress, veil, bouquet - the lot - and stand next to George Clooney, or his wax double to be more accurate, and have their picture taken. The wax model doesn’t seem to mind in the least.

Las Vegas Attractions - The Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art Details

September 22nd, 2007 by Las Vegas USA Blog

If you love fine art, and you love Las Vegas, then your best bet for a Las Vegas tour is the Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art Details. This tour is in the Bellagio hotel, of course, which has many of the finest art masterpieces to be found in Las Vegas.

The tour is on days from Sunday to Thursday starting at 10am to 6pm, and on Fridayand Saturday from 10am to 9pm. Tickets can be bought up to 30 days in advance, and advance ticket purchase is encouraged.

The ceiling of the hotel lobby is covered in sculpture by Dale Chihuly. This was an exclusive commission by the hotel. They have a piece called Fiori di Como. It is composed of hand-blown glass flowers - 2,000 of them in every color.

Inside the Picasso restaurant it should come as no surprise to find originals by the restaurant’s namesake. Every meal there is a masterpiece too!

While these pieces are certainly well worth seeing, it is the Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art where the best stuff can be found. Here they present exhibitions of a world class borrowed from famous museums worldwide. They have had works by Monet, Warhol and Faberge, to name a few.

The current exhibition, which will run until January 2008, is “In the Master’s Hands: Picasso’s Ceramics, Treasures from the Estate of Pablo Picasso.” Most people know of this great Spanish artist through his paintings, but he created pottery and ceramics too, during his time in the south of France.
